During April, school holidays took place once again — children reunited with their families, and a new school term began. This brought its share of organising along with it.
Every school holiday is an opportunity. An opportunity to strengthen family bonds and work towards what is ultimately the goal: children returning to a safe home. In April, The Ark facilitated several reunifications, allowing children to spend time with family members or foster families. Step by step, carefully and with guidance. Reintegration is not a moment — it is a process. These visits help children rebuild relationships, experience a sense of belonging, and eventually take the step back home.
For children for whom that was not yet possible, The Ark organised a full programme: household tasks and revision, life skills such as hygiene, teamwork and responsibility, and sport and other developmental activities.

The social work team had an especially busy April. Home visits are an essential part of the work: they determine whether a child can safely return home, and whether children who have already returned are truly settling in well. In April, multiple visits took place — both planned and unannounced. The team assessed the living conditions of families, looked at the emotional and social readiness of caregivers, followed up with previously reunited children, and mapped potential risks and support needs. All of this information helps to navigate the process as well as possible. Reintegration is only sustainable when it is safe and stable — and that requires careful guidance, even after the return home.
April marks both the end of the old and the beginning of the new school term — always one of the busiest periods for The Ark. Preparation includes purchasing school supplies, paying school fees, arranging transport and logistics, and mobilising partners and donors for support. The best news: all children have started school again, without interruption. That may sound obvious, but it is not. This is the work of many hands and the support of many people. Thank you to everyone who has contributed and for what you invest in the future of these children.
